Golfbaan Beemster

The Golfbaan Beemster belongs to the golf federation of Beemster, located in the polder village Middenbeemster in the province of North Holland. It stretches across the polder of Beemster, a dry terrain surrounded by a dike from the 16th century, which lies two yards below sea level and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Right in the middle of the polder, in the center of the city triangle Alkmaar-Hoorn-Purmerend, lies the Golfbaan Beemster. From here, it can be reached in ten to twenty minutes through the good transport links. The Golfbaan Beemster was opened in 2001 and is based on a design by Hans Oskam. He created the 9-hole course as a polder type with par 32, which can also be played as an 18-hole course with a length of 4214 meters and has par 64. The course is described as slightly challenging, but should not be estimated due to its tricky hazards. It is shaped by large, undulating greens, long rather narrow fairways, doglegs, bunkers, and water hazards. Ponds and trenches cross the fairways, increasing the difficulty of a game of golf. The island green at hole 7 or hole 9 provides just as much of a challenge, since golfers need play across water twice. Occasional altitude differences also offer a few technical challenges to golfers of all levels. The Golfbaan Beemster is considered a championship course with B status, frequently also used for footgolf, a mixture of golf and soccer.
