Carmelo Golf Course

The Carmelo Golf Course is near the city of Carmelo in the Departamento Colonia, which is in the southwest of Uruguay. It lies on a 270-hectare-large area near the coast where the Rio Plata and the Rio Uruguay meet and is surrounded by pines, eucalyptus trees, numerous lakes, wetlands and picturesque vineyards. From the city center of Carmelo, the Carmelo Golf Course can be reached in eleven minutes via Route 21, from the Aeropuerto Zagazuzu it only takes five minutes to get to the course via the same route. It was opened in 2000 and belongs to the Carmelo Golf Club at the Carmelo Resort & Spa. A Hatt Hotel since 2010. Randy Thompson and Kelly Moran from the American Golf Course Design Company could be won for the design of the Carmelo Golf Course. They created an 18-hole-course with par 72 and a length of 6,545 meters. The course winds across uneven terrain with fast, wavy greens, some doglegs, more than 85 difficult sand bunkers and vast lakes as water hazards. Only holes 1, 3 and 10 are spared from water. However, the water hazards hardly interfere with the game, so that golfers only come across a green at hole 7, which is directly behind a lake and requires a far tee-off. The Carmelo Golf Course is said to be one of the best golf courses of South America and the most beautiful one in Uruguay.
