Chikmagalur Golf Club

The Chikmagalur Golf Club is situated near the city of Chikmagalur in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka. It sits at a height of 1,025 meters at the foot of the Baba-Budan mountains, a part of the Western Ghats, an area famous for its coffee cultivation, and allows for a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains and hills. From Chikmagular’s center, the Chikmagalur Golf Club can be reached in about 15 minutes via the SH57 and Golf Club Road. It originally featured only a 9-hole course with par 35 which was opened in 2000. Golf course architect Phil Ryan took on the design of the course. In 2012, the expansion of the course to an 18-hole course with par 70 was confirmed, which opened at the end of 2014. The course at the Chikmagalur Golf Club measures 5,038 meters and boasts very long, narrow fairways that run nearly parallel to one another. The greens are mostly large and protected by cleverly placed finger bunkers. Water hazards such as lakes, ponds, and river courses play a role at 9 of the 18 holes. At three of these, golfers need a powerful swing to cross them. At hole 2, golfers must take a shot across a wide river, while a peninsula green is awaits at hole 5. The 10th hole also demands a shot across a river as well as a pond.
