The Cochin Golf Club lies on Bolgatty Island near the southern Indian city of Cochin, Kochi today, in the state of Kerala. It is located on the estate of the Bolgatty Palace, a manor built by the Dutch in the 18th century which is framed by Lake Vembanad on three sides. With a view of the natural harbor on the Malabar coast, the area belongs to the Bolgatty Palace Island Resort today and is only accessible by boat or via one of the three Goshree bridges opened in 2003. From Cochin’s inner city, about half an hour away via Mahatma Gandhi Road, Cochin Golf Club can be reached by crossing the bridge or by taking the ferry in five minutes. The club was founded in 1922 and opened a 9-hole parkland course in the late 1920’s, which can be played as an 18-hole course with par 60. Measuring only 3,270 meters, the course is characterized by tree-lined fairways and greens that are protected by water hazards. It is considered the smallest, but also the most difficult golf course in the state of Kerala. As one of the oldest golf clubs in India, Cochin Golf Club has hosted numerous tournaments such as the Cochin Open and the Richardson Cup.
