Curaçao Golf & Squash Club

The Curaçao Golf & Squash Club is native to the city of Willemstad on the island of Curaçao in the country of Curaçao (until 2010 Netherlands Antilles). It lies on an area with tamarind, Manzalinja and flamboyant trees, cactus and rare Copernica wax palm trees on the southwest bank of the Caribbean island near the Buskabaai. From the center of the capital, Willemstadt, one can comfortably reach the Curaçao Golf & Squash Club in 12 minutes via the Santa Rosa and Schottegatsweg Oost. In 1931, it was initially founded under the name Shell Golf Club by employees of the Shell Group and a 9-hole-course opened. Due to a lack of water, so-called brownies made of sand, mixed with oil and test fuel, were built instead of the greens. In 1985, the club was renamed Curaçao Golf & Squash Club, after Shell had left the island. In 2003, one finally replaced all brownies by ten real greens and expanded the course to an 18-hole-course in the type parkland with par 70 and a length of 5,558 meters. The Curaçao Golf & Squash Club is home to the oldest golf course in Curaçao. Although it does not provide the golfers with a driving range, a putting green for training the short game is available in a practice area.
