The Golden Oak Golf Club is located in the city of Windsor, that is in Broome County in the US state of New York. It is located along the bank of Susquehanna river, surrounded by coniferous and deciduous forests, farmland and a monastery, in the idyllic Windsor Valley. From the city center of Windsor the Golden Oak Golf Club is only five minutes away via the NY-79 E and can also be reached quickly from the next largest city Binghamton via the interstate 86 E in a about a half an hour. In 1927, the club first opened a 9-hole course that was designed by the brothers John and Jim McGinty. In 1955, the course was expanded to an 18-hole course with par 70 by Paul Kern. The 5,486-meter-long course has hilly front nine with rugged slopes and flat, adjoined back nines, small to middle-sized greens, up to 30 sand bunkers and water hazards. Hole 4, where the golf players have to hit across water in order to play onto an island green, is the highlight of the course at the Golden Oak Golf Club. Two different tee boxes allow for different difficulty levels to master the athletic course. The practice area of the club does not have a driving range, but an illuminated 9-hole putting green for training at dark. Golf Digest named the Golden Oak Golf Club one of the “Best Places to Play” in the US in 2008-2009.
