Golf & Country Club de la Côte d’Opale

The Golf & Country Club de la Côte d’Opale is located in northern France in the municipality of Reminghem, which lies in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. It lies in the woods of Éperlecques, approximately ten kilometers inland, in the middle of the triangle between Dünkirchen, Calais, and Saint-Omer. The golf club offers good transport links to these cities, which can all be reached within half an hour. Some holes for a golf course were already dug into the woods in the 1970’s. However, the Golf & Country Club de la Côte d’Opale did not receive a proper course until 1992, when the English golf course architect Bill Baker designed an 18 hole parkland/woodland course with par 73. The course has a length of 5951 meters and runs in two parts along both sides of the Rue Saint-Antoine. The first ten holes, called Yves Bacquet Course, are flat and offer a view of the inner coastline of the Opal Coast between Dünkirchen and Calais. Cleverly placed bunkers add a level of difficulty to the course. The last eight holes of the course now known as X. Mégille stretch through a lowland forest with old oak and beech trees. Doglegs, water hazards, bunkers, and fairways that appear narrow through densely placed trees make the second part of the course significantly more demanding. Near the Golf & Country Club de la Côte d’Opale, one can find Le Blockhaus d’Éperlecques, a German fortress from World War II.
