Golf & Country Club Winterswijk

The Golf & Country Club Winterswijk situated in the small hamlet of Henxel, belonging to the municipality of Winterswijk in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Just five kilometers from the German border, it stretches across the terrain of the residence of Voortwisch in the Achterhoek, a landscape between the Guelders Issel and the western North Rhine-Westphalia. Located so close to the border, the Golf & Country Club Winterswijk is easy to reach from the German neighboring towns. From Vreden, one can reach the club in about ten minutes via the Vredensweg/N820 and from Ahaus in half an hour via the L560. It was founded in 1986 and offers an 18 hole Golfbaan de Voortwisch of the parkland/woodland/meadowland type with par 71. The course was designed by the well-known English golf course architect Donald Steel as a 9-hole course and expanded to an 18-hole course in 2013. The hilly course presents several slopes. The first nine holes demonstrate fast greens and narrow fairways, the newer nine are longer and designed more openly. Large water hazards, bunkers, doglegs, and holes surrounded by forest characterize the course. Holes 2 to 4, 9, and 16 require playing over water. The championship course of the Golf & Country Club Winterswijk a tactically and technically demanding course, but can be mastered by athletic beginners and experienced golfers.
