The golf club Golf de Barbaroux lies near the town of Brignoles, which belongs to the department of Var in the region of Provence- Alpes-Côte d’Azur in southern France. It sits in the midst of a Provencal forest on an area of 78 hectares, near the French riviera. Golf de Barbarous provides good transport links to the closest towns of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, which can be reached via the A8. From both cities, the journey to the club takes about 50 to 60 minutes. The golf club was founded in 1988 and opened the 18 hole course Barbaroux with par 72 in 1989. The well-known American golf course architects Pete and P. D. Dye were responsible for its design and created the course in a very American style. The course partly stretches across a very hilly terrain that presents extreme differences in altitude. Fast greens, seven large water hazards, and gigantic bunkers raise the Golf de Barbaroux course’s level of difficulty to very high. The first nine holes involve playing across three lakes. At the third hole, a blind green in the far distance awaits, and at hole four, golfers play through a tunnel. The Barbaroux is a strategic and athletically demanding course. It is considered the largest golf course in Europe and was ranked 42nd of the 50 best European golf courses by the magazine Golf World.
