Golf de l’Île d’Or

The Golf de l’Île d’Or golf club is situated on the small island of Île Dorelle, in the center of the Loire river. It is found near the south western town of La Varenne, situated along the south bank in the Pays de la Loire region, in the department of Maine-et-Loire. However, it belongs to the town Le Cellier which is situated on the northern bank of the Loire in the department of Loire Atlantique. Despite it location on the island, the Golf de l’Île d’Or golf club has good transport links. The club is only 4 minutes away from La Varenne via the Rue Emile Jeanneau and the famous wooden bridge of La Varenne. Le Cellier and the largest town of the region, Nantes, is connected to it by the D751. The Golf de l’Île d’Or was established in 1988 and comprises of a 27 hole facility, which was created by the golf course architect Michel Gayon. The 18 hole, par 72 Rouge course is located on hilly terrain, which is bordered by the vineyards Ancenis and the banks of the Loire. The 6,292 meter long course provides athletic and tactical challenges for golfers of all handicaps with its long, narrow and tree bordered fairways, doglegs and only few water hazards. In contrast, the 9 hole, par 27 Bleu course of 1,217 meters long is a compact course with small greens which serve as a pitch & putt course.
