Golfklubbur Thorlakshofn

The golf club was founded in 1997 and is located near the former port city of Thorlakshofn in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape in southwestern Iceland. The ocean is just a stone’s throw away. Because of this, a constant breeze blows across the Golfklubbur Thorlakshofn. The club features a links course. It stretches across a sandy surface with dune-like hills, little lakes and ponds that enter the course at several points. The course was designed as a 9-hole course by Hannes Thorsteinsson and extended to 18 holes in 2005. Long holes with rather narrow fairways are typical for the Golfklubbur Thorlakshofn. They demand technique and strategy to avoid losing the balls in the rough. The course is varied and challenging, making it interesting even for experienced golfers. From the fairways, golfers have a wonderful view of the dramatically beautiful surroundings. Untouched bays lie directly nearby, and even the Hekla, an imposing, 1,400-meter-high and very active volcano, is not far away. The course is open year-round and guests are very welcome. The small but cozy clubhouse is the standard meeting place after a round of golf. The Golfklubbur Thorlakshofn is an insider tip for golfers who love a little something special. It takes half an hour by car to reach the club from the capital of Reykjavík, which is 50 kilometers away.
