Golfklúbburinn Keilir – Hvaleyrarvöllur Course

The Golfklúbburinn Keilir ranks amount the most beautiful golf courses in Iceland. It is located in Hafnarfjordur on a spectacular property directly by the sea. The can be reached in 15 minutes from the capital of Reykjavik. It features two courses: The first is the 18-hole championship course Hvaleyrarvöllur. It was built in 1967 and is 5,852 meters long. The second one, the Sveinskotsvöllur course, was opened in 1996 and contains nine holes and a length of 2,800 meters. The championship course is named after the peninsula it is located on, Hvaleyrarvöllur. This area boasts a lot of history, the traces of which reach back to Iceland’s early settlement history in the year 870. The course of the Golfklúbburinn Keilir is also unique because of its geographical location. The first nine fairways run along a rocky lava area. The second nine holes lie on the narrow peninsula. It is covered by moss. In late spring, blooming flowers add charming splashes of color. From here, players have a fantastic view of the ocean and volcanoes such as the famous, usually snow-covered, 1,446 meter high Snæfellsjökull. A Pro Shop can be found in the clubhouse. A practice area is also available. Those interested can rent clubs, buggies and trolleys. The club restaurant is open every day and offers spectacular view of the golf course and the Atlantic Ocean. On request, Golfklúbburinn Keilir also gives you the possibility to play golf at midnight.
