Gulf Hills Golf Club

The Gulf Hills Golf Club is located near the city of Ocean Springs, which belongs to Jackson County in the US state of Mississippi. It spreads across hilly grounds, surrounded by forests and crossed by streams and bayous, on the area of the Old Fort Bayou on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. From downtown Ocean Springs, the Gulf Hills Golf Club can be reached in seven minutes via Washington Ave and Shore Drive, also from the neighboring town of Biloxi, the trip to the club only takes eleven minutes. It opened an 18-hole course with par 71 in 1927, the design of which was provided by Jack L. Daray. Soon after the opening of the Gulf Hills Golf Club, it was bought by the Branigar brothers from Chicago, who, according to rumors, purchased it for Al Capone. The 5,729 meter long course is shaped by long, straight fairways, manicured greens, few doglegs, but numerous bunkers and water hazards. The latter arise in the form of canals and bayous at eight of the 18 holes and must be played across at holes 12 and 17. Hole 17 was voted one of the top five most beautiful and challenging holes in the enter southeastern region by Golf Digest. The clubhouse of the Gulf Hills Golf Club is also remarkable. Elvis Presley once sat at the piano in its lounge.
