Hainan Dongshan Lake Golf and Country Club

The Hainan Dongshan Lake Golf and Country Club, also known as the Haikou Dongshan Golf Club, lies near the southern Chinese city of Haikou in the northern province of Hainan. On a plot of 134 hectares, it winds around Dongshan lake on the island of Hainan, close to the Volcano & Wildlife Zoo and Plant Area. From Haikou’s center, the drive to the Hainan Dongshan Lake Golf and Country Club takes about an hour via the G 224. It was founded in 1997 and houses an 18-hole links course with par 72, the design of which stems from Malaysian golf course architect C.J. Tan. He created a 6,446-meter-long course with fairways lined by oak trees and separated by hills. They face a north-south direction, letting the sun shine on golfers’ faces. The course at Hainan Dongshan Lake Golf and Country Club provides many water hazards in the form of ponds, as well as numerous bunkers with red sand that resemble volcano craters. In combination with the hills and water, they create the impression of a moon landscape. This unusual design presents an ambitious technical and tactical challenge for both beginners and experienced golfers. To practice long hits, a driving range is available to golfers on site.
