Golfklúbbur Húsavíkur

As far north as it gets! Near the small town of Húsavíkur in northeastern Iceland, lies a golf course that nothing can compare to: the Golfklúbbur Húsavíkur. The extraordinary 9-hole course stands out through its fantastic landscape. The club was founded in 1967. Over the course of time, a true golf jewel was created far from “civilization” and hidden in a wonderful landscape. It is based on a design by Swedish golf course architect Nils Skold. The course is perfectly embedded into the grand natural space. It crosses the river Thorvaldstadara, meadows and rough terrain. The fairways open up to breathtaking panorama views for golfers again and again. The Husavikurfjall rises impressively in the east. The wilderness of Kinnarfjoll stretches out to the west. And to the north, the islands of Grimsey and Flatey seem to float in the endless polar sea. The course is relatively short with its 2,572 meters, but it offers considerable challenges. Each hole has its own special appeal. Particularly hole 4 (par 5, 436 m, yellow tees), one of the most difficult in Iceland. The greens and fairways are very well-kept. One highlight is certainly the club’s winter program: At this time, the first floor of the local whale museum turns into a green, where club members practice putting between exhibits and museum visitors.
