Humewood Golf Club

Humewood Golf Club is situated in the South African coastal town of Port Elizabeth, the largest city in the Eastern Cape province. It lies embedded in the sand dunes on the banks of Algoa Bay and grants a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean. From Port Elizabeth’s center, Humewood Golf Club is 45 minutes away via the N 2. It was founded in 1929 and initially had an 18-hole seaside links course designed by Colonel Stafford Vere Hotchkin. In the late 1980’s, the course was reconstructed by notable golf course architect Donald Steel and finally redesigned by the renowned architecture firm Golf Data Designs as a 6,022-meter-long course with par 72. The layout of Humewood Golf Club shows wide, wavy fairways lined by bushes, few undulating, fast greens, several doglegs, numerous deep pot bunkers, but no water hazards. In addition to the dense coastal vegetation, the erratic coastal winds also provide a level of difficulty for the course, which is rated as demanding. The practice area at the club contains a driving range for long hits and a putting green for the short game. The Humewood Golf Club championship course ranks 15th of South Africa’s top courses and has already hosted the South African Open four times.
