Island West Golf Club

The Island West Golf Club is found in the city of Bluffton, which is located in Beaufort County in the US state of South Carolina. It was built surrounding a natural marshland and lies in the Lowcountry near the border to Georgia. From Bluffton’s inner city, the Island West Golf Club can be reached in 12 minutes, and from Hilton Head Island it can be reached in 17 minutes via the US-278 N. Even from Savannah in Georgia the club is accessible via the US-17 N in just half an hour. It opened an 18-hole course with par 72 based on the designs of the famous golf course architect Clyde Johnston and the PGA-Golfstar Fuzzy Zoeller. They created a relatively short course of 6,222 meters with narrow fairways flanked by trees and small greens on a wavy terrain. The obstacles can be overcome by golfers with any handicaps, and consist of a few doglegs, huge bunkers and water hazards at 12 of the 18 holes. However, these do not necessarily have to be outplayed, instead, they are there as an opportunity for a targeted tee. This also applies to the bunkers on the Island West Golf Club course, which, due to their size, demand a disciplined play, especially at holes 2, 8 and 14. Longhits and the short game can be practiced in the club’s practice area, which includes a driving range, putting and chipping area as well as a practice bunker.
