La Iguana Golf Course

The La Iguana Golf Course is in the small coastal city of Playa Herradura, which belongs to the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. It runs along a tropical rainforest near Carara national park, and allows for a breathtaking view on the Pacific Ocean. The La Iguana Golf Course, which belongs to the Las Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, can be comfortably reached by foot in ten minutes from Playa Herradura. From San José, the capital of Costa Rica, one can reach the golf course in about 90 minutes by car and in about one hour by plane. It was opened in 1999 as the 18-hole La Iguana Golf Course with par 72 and designed by the golf course architect Ted Robinson Junior. He created a 6,124-meter-long course with wide fairways, partially lined by trees, greens of different sizes, some doglegs and numerous sand bunkers. Water hazards, such as ponds, stream and river courses, come into play at 11 of the 18 holes. Thereby, the tee-off over water is required of the golfers at holes 4, 8, 9, 12 to 14, 16 and 17. Thereby, hole 4, where not only a stream but also a tree grove cross the fairway, and hole 16, where first a stream and then a large bunker must be overcome directly before the green, are to be highlighted.
