The Leopard Rock Golf Course can be found near the city of Mutare in the province of Manicaland in Zimbabwe. It is located on the grounds of the Leopard Rock Hotel, a castle-like abode from the 1940’s which has hosted illustrious guests such as the British queen. The golf course, surrounded by dense forests, lies directly beneath the Leopard Rock in the Bvumba Mountains in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe, just a few kilometers from the border to Mozambique. It offers a grand view of the surrounding valleys and mountains. From Mutare, the Leopard Rock Golf Course can comfortably be reached via Bvumba Road in 40 minutes. The club is four hours away from Zimbabwe’s capital of Harare. The course was opened in 1993 as an 18-hole championship course with par 71 and was created by the renowned golf course architect duo Matkovich and Hayes. They designed a 6,200-meter-long course which winds along wavy terrain and is characterized by considerable height differences. Holes 2, 7, and 16 run right along Leopard Rock. Hole 9 presents numerous water hazards, while golfers must play across a gorge at hole 13 to reach the green. The signature hole is hole 14, requiring a tee-off onto a water-protected green that lies 30 meters below the tee-off level. The Leopard Rock Golf Course ranks among the top 10 African golf courses and is considered the best course in Zimbabwe.
