Lisbon Sports Club

The traditional Lisbon Sports Club is located in Casal de Carregueira near Belas. It is hidden between forests and hills in a valley of the Serra de Carregueira mountains north of Lisbon. Despite its hidden location, the Lisbon Sports Club can be reached from Sintra, Cascais, and Lisbon in 20 minutes by car. It was founded in 1922 and can trace its roots back to the Lisbon Cricket Club, founded in 1873 by the British living in Lisbon. The golf course at Lisbon Sports Club was originally only a 14-hole course. It is considered one of the oldest golf courses in Portugal. In 1964, it was expanded to become an 18-hole golf course, type parkland with par 69. The architectural firm, Hawtree & Sons was in charge of the new design and the firm consequently designed a course in the typical Scottish golf course design. Numerous water hazards at twelve holes, short fairways, elevated tees at different altitudes, slightly hilly terrain, and many trees demand tactical skills and game from golfers. To practice, the golf club offers a driving range with five tees, a putting green, a pitching area, and practice bunkers. The club also has a Pro Shop located in the club house, the old mansion of Casal de Carregueira, which offers high-quality golf clothing and equipment, in addition other small golf articles.
