The Long Bay Golf Club is located in the small town of Longs in Horry County, that is in the US state of South Carolina. It is surrounded by dense pine and maple tree groves, not far from the Atlantic Ocean at the Grand Strand of South Carolina. The Long Bay Golf Club can be reached in four minutes via the SC-9 N from Longs and in 18 minutes from nearby North Myrtle Beach. In 1989, it opened an 18-hole course in parkland style with par 72, that was designed by the famous golf course architect Jack Nicklaus. The course is 6,420 meters long and has long, narrow fairways, fast, small, elevated greens, many, large, artificial hills, as well as significant altitude differences. But its special feature are the countless bunkers in diverse forms. They also characterize the signature hole of the course at the Long Bay Golf Club, hole 10, whose fairway is in the shape of a tuning fork and shielded almost completely by them. Water hazards at 8 of the 18 holes also make the already very challenging course even harder. Lakes, ponds and rivers have to be overplayed by the golf players, especially at holes 5, 6, 13 and 15. At this, the beautiful island green at hole 13 is remarkable. The championship course is said to be one of the most challenging courses at the Grand Strand and was among the chosen “Places to Play” by Golf Digest in 2006.
