Makalei Hawaii Country Club

The Makalei Hawaii Country Club sits near the town of Kailua-Kona on the western slope of the Huelalai mountain on the island of Hawaii in the US state of Hawaii. It lies at a height of 548 up to 868 meters above sea level and high above the Kohala coast on the Pacific in a beautiful forest landscape. 16 minutes away from Kailua-Kona, the Makalei Hawaii Country Club can comfortably be reached via the Palani Rd and the HI-130/Hawaii Belt Rd. It opened an 18-hole course with par 72 in 1992, the design of which stems from Dick Nugent & Associates. They created a 6,484 meter long course with wavy, tree-lined fairways, fast greens, sand bunkers, several doglegs and sensational altitude differences. Additionally, further obstacles such as volcanic cinder cones, lava tubes and an over 100 year old stone wall create a special excitement on the golf course, which only features three water hazards at holes 7 to 9. The highlight is the signature hole 15 with a view of the 3,048 meter high volcano Haleakala on the neighboring island of Maui. The course in Makalei Hawaii Country Club can be mastered by both beginners and experienced golfers, but can become an athletic and technical challenge due to its narrow layout and the considerable changes in altitude. In its practice area, the club offers a driving range with a spectacular panorama view of the Pacific Ocean and the possibility of teeing off either from grass or from mats.
