Margate Country Club

Margate Country Club is situated in the South African bathing resort of Margate in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. It lies on an elevated terrain on a section of the southern coast of the Indian Ocean called Hibiscus Coast and allows a wonderful view of the sea and the bordering hinterland. The trip from Margate’s city center to Margate Country Club takes just two minutes via Wingate Avenue, and it can be reached in about 90 minutes via the N 2 from Durban. It was founded in 1950 and is home to an 18-hole parkland/links course with par 71. In 1995, the course measuring 6,063 meters was redesigned by renowned golf course architects Matkovich and Hayes. It exhibits fairways lined by palm trees, banana trees, and other exotic trees, wavy greens, tricky bunkers, and numerous water hazards in the form of ponds, waterfalls, and streams. The signature hole is hole 11, which expects golfers to dynamically tee off across a ravine to a very small green. The layout at Margate Country Club is considered tactical, technical, and athletically very demanding and provides a considerable challenge for golfers of all levels. The course is seen as one of the most beautiful golf courses on the African eastern coast and now belongs to the top 100 courses in South Africa.
