Middelburg Country Club

The Middelburg Country Club is situated in the South African city of Middelburg, which belongs to the northeastern province of Mpumalanga. It lies embedded in the nature reserve of Middelburg in South Africa’s highlands. From Middelburg’s city center, Middelburg Country Club can be reached in about ten minutes. The metropolises of Pretoria and Johannesburg are 80 to 100 minutes away via the N 12 and N 4. The club was established in 1905, although the first nine holes were already built in the 1890’s by British colonial troops. In the 1970’s, famous golf course architect Gary Player finally designed the second set of nine holes, so that a complete 18-hole parkland course with par 72 could be opened in 1974. The course, measuring 6,556 meters, is shaped by sloping fairways, curved greens well protected by bunkers, doglegs, and water hazards at 13 of the 18 holes. At holes 4, 11 to 15, and 17, golfers must dare a shot across a pond, lake, or stream. The challenging, technically and tactically demanding course at the Middelburg Country Club can be mastered by both beginners and experienced golfers. Practice opportunities are available at the club’s own driving range, a putting and a chipping green, as well as practice bunkers provided by the club, which hosted the South Africa Mid Amateur Championships in 2014.
