The golf club Mission Inn Resort & Club is situated in the small town of Howey-in-the-Hills, which belongs to Lake County in the US state of Florida. It runs along a hilly terrain of former orange plantations and displays altitude differences of up to 26 meters. When coming from the direction of Orlando, it takes about 45 minutes to reach the Mission Inn Resort & Club via Florida’s Turnpike. The course already opened its 18 hole El Campeón parkland course with par 72 in 1917, the design of which was provided by C.E. Clarke and improved in 1926 by George O’Neill. The 6,330 meter long course is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and features wavy fairways and undulating greens. It leads across steep hills and boasts water hazards at 13 holes, six of which must be played across. A beautiful island green awaits golfers of all playing abilities at hole 16. The signature hole is hole 17, with a double dogleg that provides a number of obstacles. In 1992, the Mission Inn Resort & Club opened the second 18-hole course, a links course with par 71. Gary Koch was responsible for its design, creating broad, open fairways; large, wavy greens, and water hazards at 14 holes. The 6,213 meter long course runs across soft hills and presents hole 12 as its signature hole, Alligator Alley, at which golfers must play along a narrow, tree-covered fairway.
