Monks Cowl Country Club

Monks Cowl Country Club is situated near the South African small town of Winterton in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. It stretches across the grounds of Gooderson Leisure Monks Cowl Golf Resort, by the entry to Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park and Cathkin Nature Park. With the backdrop of the central Drakensberg, Monk Cowl Country Club allows a glorious view of Champagne Valley and the peak of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak, Monk Cowl, and the Giant Castle. From Winterton’s center, the club can be accessed in ten minutes via the R 600, and from the larger cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban in 90 to 130 minutes via the N 3. Monks Cowl Country Club was founded in 1973 and boasts a 9-hole parkland/links course with par 72. The course, which measures 5,738 meters, received an upgrade in 2016 and runs along flat terrain with several ponds as well as a river with a small waterfall. Its signature hole is the 5th hole, at which a suspension bridge leads across the ravine of Hattingspruit. Golfers will find two different tee-offs at each fairway, so that the course can also be played as an 18-hole course. For training purposes, Monks Cowl Country Club offers golfers a driving range as well as a putting green. Its golf course is counted among the top ten of the Drakensberg courses.
