North Otago Golf Club

The North Otago Golf Club is situated in Oamaru, about 114 kilometers to the north of Dunedin. The par-72 course opened in 1974 and measures 5,687 meters. The 18 hole course stretches out slightly elevated from the coast with splendid views of the Pacific Ocean. The course is challenging, partially due to the hilly terrain, and partially to the bunker-guarded greens. The third hole (“Coronary Hill”) is considered the feature hole of the North Otago Golf Club. This dogleg curves to the left and ends on a small green to the side of a hill after a steep climb. The tricky course is lined with trees in part; holes 13 to 16 stretch out over open terrain. The greens are rather small; therefore, skill is necessary to make sure that you do not end up searching for the ball in the rough of the North Otago Golf Club. The facilities are maintained excellently and also open to guests. The golf academy is run by a resident pro; it offers single and group lessons. There is a large training area and a pro shop that offers golf carts and the like. The North Otago Golf Club is located around two kilometers from Otago and can be reached by State Highway 1. Otago is famous for its historical Victorian old town as well as its two penguin colonies.
