Penina Hotel & Golf Resort

The Penina Hotel & Golf Resort is located between the city of Lagos and the fishing town of Portimão along the western Algarve and is counted among the most well-known golf courses on the southern coast of Portugal. It offers golfers three individual golf courses that can be reached via the N125 in 12 minutes from Portimão and in 25 minutes from Lagos. From the Faro Airport, the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort can be reached in 45 minutes via the A22. The golf course architect Sir Henry Cotton built the 18-hole “Henry Cotton Championship Course,” type parkland with par 73, on former rice fields. The 6,273-meter long course runs in two 9-hole loops over the flat terrain and is the first 18-hole course that was built along the Algarve. In 2004/2005, it was completely overhauled and now impresses with its wide fairways and greens, many bunkers, streams, as well as 360,000 bushes and trees. The championship course at the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort has already hosted the Portuguese Open ten times and was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in 2016. Additionally, the resort offers two 9-hole courses to practice one’s short game. The 9-hole resort course with par 35 is 2,987-meters long, while the 9-hole academy course with par 30 is just 1,851-meters long.
