The Pine Knolls Golf Club is in the city of Kernersville, that is located in Forsyth County in the US state of North Carolina. It is embedded in a residential area and runs along the Piedmont of North Carolina, a plateau area between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains. From the center in Kernersville the Pine Knolles Golf Club can be comfortably reached in 10 minutes, while it takes 25 to 30 minutes from the Piedmond-Triad cities Winston-Salem and Greensboro. In 1969, the club opened an 18-hole course with par 72 that was created by the Poindexter brothers. The 5,795-meter-long course is characterized by short fairways, small, difficult greens and many altitude differences. In addition, there are some doglegs, bunkers and water hazards such as streams, ponds and lakes at 6 of the 18 holes. At holes 1 and 2 golf players have to tee over a stream, at hole 4 over a pond, as well as over a small lake at hole 12, in order to reach the green. Especially the back nine are populated by trees. The golf players can find three different tee boxes on the course, so that they can play on different difficulty levels. In 2001, the course at the Pine Knolls Golf Club was the host of the National Golf Association Triad Classic.
