Port Elizabeth Golf Club lies in the heart of the city of Port Elizabeth in the South African Eastern Cape province. Called “The Hill” by locals, the club is just a few minutes away from Algoa Bay, by the Indian Ocean. From the center of the largest city of the province, also known as “The Wind City”, it takes 40 minutes to reach Port Elizabeth Golf Club via the N 2. It was already established in 1890 and contains an 18-hole parkland course with par 72. With a length of 6,121 meters, the course runs along hilly grounds and is characterized by tree- and shrub-lined fairways, partly enormous greens, several doglegs, 25 trickily positioned bunkers, and water hazards at 3 of the 18 holes. The signature hole at Port Elizabeth Golf Club is hole 17, requiring a mighty shot across a large lake to reach the green. Aside from water and bunkers, the constantly blowing wind also presents a factor of difficulty on the otherwise easy course. For practicing purposes, the club offers a driving range and a putting green for golfers. Port Elizabeth Golf Club is home to the first golf course created in the city and also the second oldest course in all of South Africa. In 2015, it hosted the South African Amateur Championship.
