Porto Marina Resort & Spa is situated near the small Egyptian town of El Alamein by the Mediterranean coast. It lies in a picturesque oasis in the middle of the desert, close to the artificially created Marina Lagoon. From El Alamein, the resort can quickly be reached in about 15 minutes via Alexandria – Marsa Matrouh Rd/International Coastal Rd, and Route 40 M. It is home to an 18-hole desert course with par 62 and a length of 3,700 meters, opened in 2007 and designed by the American golf course architect Raymond Heam. The course features narrow fairways covered with 750 palm trees and partially elevated, mostly large greens. Numerous sand bunkers, natural desert areas, and water hazards in the form of four lakes present challenges on the course that golfers of all handicaps struggle to overcome. Water enters the game at holes 3, 4, 6, 12, and 18, but it only needs to be played across at hole 3. Inexperienced and experienced golfers can choose from three different tees at each hole, allowing for variation in the difficulty of the playing levels. The course at Port Marina Resort & Spa is the only 18-hole course on Egypt’s northern coast. In the course’s practice area, a 275-meter-long driving range with 20 tees and seven target greens, a putting green, a pitch & putt area, and a practice bunker are available. Trolleys, electric carts, and golf clubs can be rented. Caddies can also be hired on request.
