Randfontein Golf Club is situated in the city of Randfontein, which is located in the South African province of Gauteng. It lies on the western end of the Witwatersrand in a former gold mine region. From the city center of Randfontein, Randfontein Golf Club can be reached in ten minutes via Homestead Avenue, and from the province’s capital of Johannesburg in about 45 minutes via Main Reef Road/R 41. The club was founded in 1926 and originally belonged to the Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company. Its layout stems from the South African golf architect Bob Grimsdell and was reconstructed in 1993 by the architecture firm Golf Data. The 18-hole parkland course with par 72 has a length of 6,488 meters, making it the longest course in the area. It is characterized by broad fairways bordered by trees, large, undulating greens, as well as several doglegs, numerous bunkers, and water hazards. Water comes into play at 9 of the 18 holes, and golfers must play across ponds that protect the green or cross the fairways at holes 1, 7, and 18. The demanding course at Randfontein Golf Club provides a technical, athletic, and tactical challenge for golfers of all handicaps. Hole 7 is particularly noteworthy, which golf course architect Robbie Marshall designed as a tribute to Augusta course’s legendary 16th hole.
