The Royal Springs Golf Course is at home in the northern Indian city of Srinagar in the western part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies at a height of 2,743 meters on grounds measuring 121 hectares, at the foot of the Zabarwan mountains and boasts a beautiful view of the Dal lake, wooded hills, and the Mughal garden Chasme Shahi from the 17th century. From Srinagar’s center, Boulevard Road quickly takes golfers to the Royal Springs Golf Course in 15 minutes. It was founded as an 18-hole parkland course with par 72 in 2001 and was designed by the famous American golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The hilly, 6,482-meter-long course features considerable differences in elevation of up to 130 meters. Wide, wavy fairways, difficult greens, three lakes and two swamps as water hazards as well as several bunkers shape the challenging layout at the Royal Springs Golf Course. As a highlight, it features cork oaks planted by Srinagar’s last maharajah, Hari Singh, before 1947. The course’s signature hole is hole 5 with an elevated tee and a panoramic view of the Dal lake. Named after the four royal springs of the Moghul emperor Jehangir in the walled Chasme Shahi garden, the Royal Springs Golf Course is considered one of Asia’s most beautiful golf courses and was voted one of the top 10 courses in India by Golf Digest in 2014.
