Samarahan Country Club

The Samarahan Country Club, formerly The Sarawak Club Golf Resort, is situated in the city of Kota Samarahan in the state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. It winds through the rainforest jungle on a flat, low-lying area. From Kota Samarahan’s inner city, the Smarahan Country Club is reachable in about 15 minutes, while the trip from Kuching, the district’s capital, requires more than 20 minutes. The club opened an 18-hole parkland course with par 72 in 2008 as The Sarawak Club Golf Resort and changed its name to the Samarahan Country Club in 2012. The 5,600-meter-long course is comprised of the Garden Nine and the Jungle Nine. It offers a large number of water hazards in the form of ponds, lakes, pools, and streams, as well as several sand bunkers that strategically protect the greens. The fairways are mostly short and wide, and several doglegs add a level of difficulty to the course at the Samarahan Country Club. Water appears at all 18 holes and must be played across at holes 2 to 5, 8 to 11, 13, 14, and 16 to 18, sometimes even twice per hole. The course is the newest in the region of Kuching and presents quite a few challenges to golfers of all handicaps. The club has already hosted the World Golfer Championship, the World Amateur Team Championship, and the BMW Golf International Cup.
