San Lorenzo Golf Course

The San Lorenzo Golf Course is counted among the golf courses on the estate of Quinta do Lago, located near the small town of Almancil along Portugal’s southern coast. The course is situated in the southeastern corner of the estate and is bordered by the nature preserve Ria Formosa, as well as the salt lagoons of the nearby coast. Surrounded by groves of pine trees typical for the Algarve, the San Lorenzo Golf Course passes by lakes, marshes, and dreamy beaches. 25 minutes from Faro’s airport, it is easily reached via the IC4. The course was opened in 1988 and is based on the design by Joseph Lee and Rocky Roquemore. Both the renowned golf course architects designated the 18-hole course in the form of an eight, in the middle of which the clubhouse is located. The fairways traverse slightly hills terrain along lagoons and marshes, flanked by picturesque pine trees. The first seven holes at San Lorenzo Golf Course lead towards the coast; from hole 8, they lead back inland. Bunkers, doglegs, and large lakes, such as those at hole 8 and 18, require tactical expertise from golfers. The golf course belongs to the top 30 in continental Europe, according to the Golf World Magazine where only guests of the hotels Le Meridien Dona Filipa and Amarante Formosa Park, as well as private members of the club are allowed to golf.
