The Sorknes Golfklubb is located three kilometers north of the town Rena, which belongs to the Åmot municipality in the eastern Norwegian province Hedmark. It extends through thick pine forests, not far from the point where the rivers Glomma and Rena flow together. In spite of its location in the densely wooded, mountainous Østerdalen, the Sorknes Golfklubb is easily reachable by car. From Oslo it is a two-hour drive on the E6 and Ry 3, from Lillehammer the same route takes 105 minutes. The club was founded in 1990, and the first nine holes were opened in 1992. In 1996 the next nine holes followed. The design of the course goes back to Juul Sogaard. He designed a 6,715-meter long, 18-hole course of the woodland type, with par 72. On the hilly terrain, the front nine have open fairways, water hazards such as ponds, and several bunkers, while the back nine have narrow fairways and a lot of water due to the Skynner river course, which flows around several holes. The course poses several challenges to beginners and experienced golfers alike, which can only be overcome with precise play and well-thought-out tactics. In 1999, the Sorknes Golfklubb was the venue for the European Challenge Tour and is described as one of the best golf resorts in Norway by Guide Michelin Golf.
