The Grenadines Estate Golf Course on Canouan Island

The Grenadines Estate Golf Course on Canouan Island is on the small island of Canouan, which belongs to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean. It lies on a very hilly, around 120-hectare-large area on the shores of the Atlantic and climbs up to the almost 2,900-meter-high edge of an extinct volcano. From Charlestown, the main town of the island, The Grenadines Estate Golf Course on Canouan Island can be reached in 11 minutes via the E Coast Road and from the Canouan Airport it also only takes a quarter of an hour to reach the course. It lies on the 485-hectare-large Canouan Estate and was opened in 2002 as an 18-hole-course in the type heathland/clifftop with par 72. The famous golf architect Jim Fazio was responsible for its design. The 6,309-meter-long course shows wide, elevated fairways, dramatic altitude differences of more than 150 meters, doglegs and some water hazards. Hole 5 allows for a brilliant view of the Godahl reef, while the signature hole, hole 13, leads up to the highest point of the island. Finally, at hole 16, as much as five waterfalls amaze the golfers, of which the Grenadines Estate Golf Course on Canouan Island requires athletic, as well as technical skills. The championship course is one of the best 18-hole-golf-courses in the region and was voted the best golf course of the year by Robb Report in 2005.
