The Lakes BarcelóGolf Course

The Lakes Barceló Golf Course is near the towns of Bávaro and Punta Cana, which are in the province of La Altagracia in the Dominican Republic. It runs along the Laguna Bavaro on the Dominican east coast, 200 meters from the ocean and is surrounded by exotic vegetation. From Bávaro, Punta Cana and its international airport, the Lakes Barceló Golf Course can easily be reached in a half an hour. It was opened in 1991 as the first golf course in the region of Punta Cana/Bávaro and designed by Juan Manuel Gordillo. In 2009/2010, The Lakes Barceló Golf Course was redesigned by the renowned golf course architect P. B. Dye. He created an 18-hole-course in the type parkland with par 72 and a length of 6,085 meters. The course winds across flat terrain and is characterized by wide, wavy fairways, which are lined by a mangrove forest, well-protected greens, solitary trees on the fairways, doglegs, 25 inland lakes and 122 cleverly placed bunkers. After Dye’s redesign, the front nine wind counter-clockwise, whereas the back nine wind clockwise. Signature hole 9, which contains an elevated island green surrounded by sand falls and water, is especially remarkable. The dogleg at hole 4, which requires technique and good nerves due to two solitary trees on the fairway, is also impressive.
