Trivandrum Golf Club

The Trivandrum Golf Club is located in Thiruvananthapuram, formerly Trivandrum, the capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is situated on an area of 10 hectares, in the middle of the city, right next to the Maharaja palace. The Trivandrum Golf Club is easily reachable in less than 15 minutes from Thiruvananthapuram’s center via Patton Kowdiar Road. It was founded in the 1850’s by Maharaja Sri Moolam Tirunal on the grounds of the hunting hut of the Maharajas of Travancore and thereby belongs to India’s oldest golf clubs. The design was revised in the 1960’s by the well-known golf course architect Peter Thompson and turned into a 9-hole course with par 34 that can also be played as an 18-hole course. The course is only 2,418 meters long, arranged in a circular fashion, and has a steep incline on two sides. The fairways are bordered by a dense forest consisting of more than 1,000 types of trees and plants. Due to its complicated soil conditions, the course does not contain any water hazards. As of recently, the Trivandrum Golf Club is run by the Indian sports authority SAI, who run the National Golf Academy there to work on youth development in India.
