Golfklúbbur Vestmannaeyja

The golf club was founded in 1936 and belongs to the oldest golf clubs in Iceland. It is situated on the island of Heimaey, the only inhabited island of the Vestmannaeyjar, which lie to the south of Iceland. After a devastating volcano eruption with strong ash fall in 1973, the golf course was severely damaged, but rebuilt and enlarged. Today the 18-hole course with par 70 boasts a length of 5,218 meters. The fairways run along a breathtaking landscape, embedded between the ocean, a fantastic volcano arena and the picturesque little town. The links course ranks as one of the most beautiful in the world. Due to its proximity to the water, it is not easy, since a steady breeze blows and the winds influence teeing off. Hole 17 is considered the signature hole Here one needs a powerful swing that manages to cross the 133 meters across the volcanic rocks to a green that strategically perfectly protected by bunkers and water hazards. Nonetheless, the beautiful views of the landscape or the nesting and resting places of puffins ensure that a misplaced shot on the course of the Golfklúbbur Vestmannaeyja is quickly forgotten. Another highlight is the midnight golfing in the summer – a must! The comfortable clubhouse with a restaurant leaves nothing to be desired. Guests are very welcome. A handicap of 36 is required to play at the Golfklúbbur Vestmannaeyja. There is a Pro Shop and a practice area on site.
