The Walnut Creek Golf Complex is situated in the city of Marion in Grant County, in the US state of Indiana. It stretches across an area of 75 hectares in the Walnut Creek Valley and runs along hilly terrain as well as through flat land. From the center of Marion, the Walnut Creek Golf Complex can be reached in 15 minutes via the IN-18 E, and in 75 minutes from Indianapolis via the Interstate 69 N. It contains a 36-hole complex comprised of two 18 hole courses. In 1970, the 18-hole Walnut Creek Course, also known as Marion Indiana Golf Course, was opened with par 72. In 1995, the Club Run Course followed, also referred to as the Grant County Indiana Golf Course, a 9-hole course that was expanded to an 18-hole course in 1998. Randy Ballinger was responsible for the design of both courses. The Walnut Creek Course is 6,315 meters long and features fairways closely lined by trees, large greens and long tees. Water hazards at eight holes, strategically placed bunkers and changes in altitude make the game on this athletically demanding course more challenging. The Club Run Course, however, is only 5,693 meters long, but features considerable altitude differences and open fairways bordered by trees. The doglegs on this course are numerous and golfers need to be prepared for streams, ponds and larger lakes at 9 of the 18 holes.
