Irish Hills Golf Club

The Irish Hills Golf Club is located in the city of Mount Vernon in Knox County in the US state of Ohio. It extends over a hilly area in a residential area of the town that was named after the country estate of the first US president George Washington. From the center of Mount Vernon the Irish Hills Golf Club is quickly reachable in eight minutes via the US-13 S/Newark Road, while it takes about an hour from Ohio’s capital, Columbus. It was founded in 1928 and first had a 9-hole course, until Bill Barbour finally bought the Irish Hills Golf Club in 1976 and expanded it to an 18-hole course in parkland style with par 71 by 1986. The 6,161-meter-long course can easily be divided into the first older and the second younger nine holes. The front nine run along a wavy terrain with narrow fairways, populated by trees, and small greens, while the back nine have wide open, partially very short fairways and large greens. There are only two water hazards in form of a pond at hole 5 and a stream at hole 15, that has to be overplayed by the golf players. Nevertheless, the course, that has more than four different tee boxes along the fairways for different difficulty levels, can be mastered by all golf players with any type of handicap.
